goodbye sweet Lena

Lena Horne probably the most ground breaking women of her era, her talent was unmatchable. But she was usually used as a voice over in earlier films in the in the 40's and even 50's even with such light skin. When Lena did start getting cast in films she felt her looks overshadowed her talents, as she was basically the first women of color to really have a fantastically successful career on screen. She was a fabulous singer and writer and had worked with some of the greatest composers and jazz musicians.  Its crazy to think that her lyrics were considered sexually provocative and really frightened and confused frustrated teenagers. As well as living as a wealthy single beautiful black woman in the 40's and all the horrible stigma that went along with that era. Humphrey Bogart was one of her best friends and really sheltered and shielded her from the horrific racism that was associated with her very fair but colored complexion. She is amazing
